Flat deck transportation
Standard flat deck and straight truck flat deck service for steel, lumber, construction material and anything that loads from the side or the top.
Est. 1947 · Surrey, B.C.
West Coast Cartage has been moving freight for British Columbia businesses for 80 years. A Teamsters union carrier out of Surrey — same job, same coast, still answering the phone.
The archive
The print still hangs on the office wall. Most of what is in it is gone — the cab-overs, the stake beds, the wooden dispatch shack. The company is not.

Professional transportation for businesses that need heavy, awkward or time-sensitive freight to show up when it was promised.
Standard flat deck and straight truck flat deck service for steel, lumber, construction material and anything that loads from the side or the top.
High-capacity configurations for full loads and heavy commodities where a single trailer will not carry the weight.
Enclosed trailers for freight that needs to stay out of the weather between the shipper and the consignee.
Drop axle trucks for weight-sensitive loads, and crane trucks when there is no forklift or overhead crane waiting at the other end.
Machinery and equipment moved between yards, plants and job sites. Tell us the dimensions and the site access and we will tell you what it takes.
When a delivery is time-sensitive and the schedule has already gone sideways. Call dispatch rather than emailing — it moves faster.
What rides on the deck
Most of what we haul is the freight that will not fit in a courier van and will not wait for a scheduled run.
Who we haul for
Where we run
The Lower Mainland is our primary service area, with regular runs throughout the B.C. Interior. If it is not on this list, call anyway — most of what we haul started as a one-off.
The company
West Coast Cartage has proudly served the Lower Mainland of British Columbia since 1947. Across 80 years we have built a reputation for reliability, safety and customer service that keeps businesses calling back.
As a Teamsters union carrier we provide professional transportation solutions across flat deck, dry van, Super B’s and B-trains, drop axle and crane trucks, and equipment hauling — including emergency response when a delivery is time-sensitive.
Whether it is a single shipment or an ongoing transportation partnership, the freight gets there safely.
We handle structural and fabricated steel, machinery, lumber and wood products, construction materials and general freight for the steel fabrication, construction, forestry, manufacturing, industrial, commercial and infrastructure sectors.

Pickup, delivery, weight, dimensions and when it has to be there. A photo of the skid is usually faster than a description.
A real number from a real dispatcher, not a calculator. If we are not the right carrier for it, we will say so.
Booked, picked up and delivered. One phone number for the whole move — or place it yourself in the order portal if you already have an account.
Straight answers
If yours is not here, phone it in. Nobody minds the question.
Usually the same business day, often within the hour if you call it in before mid-afternoon. Complicated moves — oversize, multi-stop, anything needing special equipment — can take until the next morning while we confirm availability.
In town, no minimum — one skid is a real job and we quote it like one. Runs out to the rest of British Columbia go as full truckload. If you are not sure which yours is, call dispatch and we will tell you straight.
Yes — we carry adequate cargo insurance for the freight we haul. Ask dispatch when you book and they will go over the details for your load.
Often, depending on where the freight is and what is already on the board. Call rather than emailing if it needs to move today — dispatch can tell you in a minute whether we have a truck near you.
Pickup and delivery addresses, contact names at both ends, weight and dimensions, skid count, and any appointment windows. A photo of the freight is usually faster and more accurate than a written description.
Tell us up front if either end is residential or has no dock — it changes the equipment we send and we would rather know before the driver arrives than after.
Yes — West Coast Cartage is a Teamsters union carrier.
Flat deck and straight truck flat deck, dry van, Super B’s and B-trains, drop axle trucks and crane trucks. If you are not sure what your load needs, describe the freight and the site access and dispatch will tell you.
Same name, same trade, same coast. The trucks in the photograph on our history page were scrapped decades ago, but the company has been hauling freight here without interruption since then.
